And Then Of Course There's This...

As if the discovery of one Shakespeare portrait fraud wasn't enough...

    Now there's this...

This was actually done for a promotion years ago for Wayside Theatre. Scary.

    The Abilene Paradox Defined

Ok, no one bit. So here's the answer to the question....

Can You Define the Abilene Paradox?

Actually, before we get to the answer, here's why I found this intriguing. As a theatre director I'm always dealing with different groups of people and group dynamics, be they casts, boards of directors, staffs, etc...  It is always fascinating to me how individuals within groups interact, make decisions, and move forward on ideas. Call me an avid student of group dyanmics becasue I am.

Anyway, following some of the news regarding the election of the new pope this week, I've found some of the historical coverage of past conclaves fascinating and done a good deal of reading about it.

I found the Abilene Paradox in an article in the New York Times by Henry Fountain this past weekend .

And now...drumroll please... The Abilene Paradox

But there is no guarantee that the cardinals will make a good choice. Jerry B. Harvey, an emeritus professor of business at George Washington University, knows how a bad choice could happen. He has described what he calls the "Abilene paradox," when the pressure to conform based on fear makes people do things they don't want to do. (The name comes from a nightmarish car trip his family once took in Texas; when they got to Abilene, they realized that no one had wanted to go.) Dr. Harvey said he could imagine a situation in which the cardinals "would select somebody they'd all agree they didn't want."

It actually helps that the cardinals don't ordinarily spend a lot of time together. "If you know one another and don't want to rock the boat with each other," he said, "you end up going to Abilene."

    Abilene Paradox: The Answer....

    Yesterday I asked this question.

Can You Define The Abilene Paradox?

Well, can you? Leave a comment if you have an answer. We'll give it another day or so.

Secrets Of The Ancients Soon To Be Revealed?

If this comes to be, I think it will be fascinating. Using infrared technology to read writings discovered in an ancient trash dump. Some of the authors include Sophocles, Euripides Ovid, and a series of Christian gospels lost for 2000 years.

Again, I ask, who has the money to pay someone to think up and develop this stuff?

LED Underwear should really light up the bedroom. Something new for my Xmas list for the wife?

Can you imagine the pitch to the CEO?

Dvorak's Blog: Humor, Opinions and More

I'm categorizing this under Fun Stuff because to me it is. One of the things I love about reading blogs and the internet in general is being able to access a multitude of opinions, thoughts, ideas, you name it. I'm a pretty voracious reader of many things, not just about Tablets and Theatre.

John Dvorak is well know computer columnist who is often controversial in his opinions, often right on and often just out in left field. I love reading his stuff, many times just for the writing.

I stumbled on the link to his blog today and I'm now going to list a link to it here. If you enjoy reading, just for the sake of reading others opinions as you form your own, you'll like what you see here.
